Dish Around Town | Highly-Anticipated Rodney Scott’s Whole Hog BBQ Now Open at MET Atlanta

Carter announces Rodney Scott’s Whole Hog BBQ is now open at MET Atlanta. The restaurant, with popular locations in Charleston and Birmingham, will offer South Carolina-style whole-hog barbecue along with his famous ribs, chicken and homemade side dishes. Continuing his family’s tradition of cooking over live wood coals, pitmaster Rodney Scott utilizes burn barrels to turn hardwood into glowing coals on-site.

Scott and his team—including partner Nick Pihakis and operating partner Jay Griffin—will operate the restaurant at MET Atlanta along Metropolitan Parkway. The 5,900 SF space has undergone an extensive adaptive reuse renovation and includes a bright indoor dining room, 1,000 SF indoor/outdoor patio, full bar and walk-up window for carryout orders. Scott’s team designed an indoor pit room within the restaurant’s expansive kitchen housing four custom-designed wood cool-burning pits.

“We’re honored to have Rodney Scott’s BBQ join the MET community and believe Rodney’s commitment to building relationships in the neighborhoods in which his restaurants operate aligns seamlessly with our company’s values. We are proud that the restaurant has made it a point to hire from the surrounding area, bringing not only the highest quality food to the neighborhood, but also quality jobs,” Carter vice president Adam Parker says. “Rodney’s location in the heart of Southwest Atlanta creates an opportunity to become a welcoming gathering place for neighbors, Atlantans and visitors to our city.”

“The community is proud to welcome Rodney Scott, his restaurant and his team to District 12,” says Council Member Joyce Sheperd. “He has already shown a commitment to being a great neighbor by hiring staff from the immediate neighborhoods, and I am certain the restaurant will quickly become a community staple.”

Scott’s passion for cooking whole-hog barbecue began at the age of 11, and grew as he worked at his family’s Hemingway, S.C., barbecue restaurant for 25 years. In 2017, Scott opened the first Rodney Scott’s BBQ location in the North Central neighborhood of Charleston. That same year, the restaurant was named one the 50 Best New Restaurants by Bon Appetit Magazine and in 2018, Scott was named the James Beard Foundation’s Outstanding Chef Southeast. In 2019, Rodney Scott’s BBQ expanded with the opening of its second location in Birmingham, Ala., and over the past year, Scott has been featured on Netflix’s Chef’s Table: BBQ, released a new book and begun hosting Food Network’s “BBQ Brawl.”

“Opening our Atlanta restaurant has been in the works for a long time, and our team is excited to finally be able to introduce our style of whole-hog barbecue to Southwest Atlanta,” Scott says. “This city is special and we’re here to complement and not complicate Atlanta’s already rich food culture.”

Rodney Scott’s Whole Hog BBQ opened Tuesday, July 27, and is open daily from 11AM-9PM. For more information about Rodney Scott’s Whole Hog BBQ, visit and read more about MET Atlanta at
