James Beard award-winning chef Rodney Scott is planning to open his barbecue concept at The Met, a big redevelopment in southwest Atlanta from developer Carter, in spring 2020.
It will be the first Rodney Scott’s BBQ in Atlanta and third location overall. Scott opened his first location in 2017 in Charleston, South Carolina, and has a second location in Birmingham, Alabama.
Rodney and his team, including partner Nick Pihakis, will operate the restaurant at The Met, a 1.1 million-square-foot former cotton warehouse along Metropolitan Parkway and near the West End MARTA station.
Rodney Scott’s BBQ will occupy around 5,000 square feet with a 1,000-square-foot covered patio at the project.
The restaurant will offer South Carolina-style whole-hog barbecue along with ribs, chicken and homemade side dishes, according to an announcement. Rodney uses burn barrels to turn hardwood into coals on-site.
“Southwest Atlanta is a place rich in African-American business leadership, and we’re confident this is the perfect place for the third location of Rodney Scott’s BBQ,” Scott said in an announcement. “Atlanta is a big stage and I’m excited to bring our style of whole-hog barbecue to the Adair Park and West End neighborhoods.”
In 2018, Scott won the “Outstanding Chef Southeast” award from the James Beard Foundation.
